FAQs
We do all of the technical work for you.
The first time you use Alo, we will need you to describe the mechanics of your rotation system (e.g. whether there are any seat groupings, special rules, etc.) so that we can build a model of Alo that is bespoke to your firm’s requirements.
After that, all you would need to do is send us the anonymised trainee preference data at each rotation (e.g. via Excel, email or any other reasonable format) and we will generate your allocation and analytics. If you're not happy with the output (although we’re yet to have anyone who hasn’t been), we'll discuss what you would like adapted and generate a new allocation for you at no extra cost.
Alo assesses an trainee’s satisfaction in a number of ways, but primarily by comparing their stated preferences and the seat that they are ultimately allocated to. Trainees that are placed in their 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc. choice seats are of course more likely to be satisfied than trainees placed in an unchosen seat, but there are other considerations at play (e.g. whether the trainee has repeatedly (and unsuccessfully) chosen that seat in the past, whether it dovetails previous seats that they have done, etc.). Alo considers and balances all of these factors in producing the optimal allocation.
In most cases, we will produce a bespoke version of Alo that is configured for your firm's particular rotation system. You simply send us the anonymised trainee preference data and we will create a full report containing the suggested allocation along with analytics on the rotation as a whole and on each trainee.
The initial (one-time) discussion that we would need to understand your firm’s rotation mechanics can take up to an hour (although it is usually much quicker). After that, as soon as we have the trainee data for the relevant rotation, we can generate your allocation and analytics in a few days, or quicker if required (e.g. send us your rotation data on a Friday afternoon, and have an optimal allocation in your inbox by Monday morning).
